Sabugueiro, until the date of its extinction in 2013, was the most recent parish in the Municipality of Arraiolos. The creation of the Parish was approved by the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic on March 11, 1988, and its diploma was published in the Official Gazette on May 23, 1988. Although the parish is recent, the village of Sabugueiro is very old. The village already existed in 1421, as stated in a document from that year in the Chapter of the Cathedral of Évora. Therefore, the most likely hypothesis for the founding of the village must find an explanation in the good natural conditions of the location.
